Grant Activity:
Leveraging local peers to connect communities and enhance mental health
Purpose:
Expanding Lifelines work through its established community networks across ten LGAs, this project aims to normalise conversations about mental health. This project builds on the learnings of the Bushfire Recovery Service. Project objectives are optimal recovery and resilience against future disasters. These will be achieved through two Lifeline-trained teams: employed Peer Workers in each LGA are the go-to Advocates who identify and refer within established, extensive networks. Voluntary connectors are members of local community groups who receive community education to identify signs of stress and mental ill-health through casual community contact. This two-tier model of trusted peers has proven successful.
