Understanding and conserving Gula (Koala) on Ngunnawal Country, ACT
Purpose:
This project seeks to better understand and enhance Koala populations in the ACT all through Traditional Owner engagement. Activities will include baseline surveys for Koala populations and tree planting events led by the Ngunnawal Community. The surveys will provide evidence of Koala abundance and distribution plus provide opportunity to upskill Aboriginal community to combine western science with indigenous knowledge. An important part of this project is to upskill Ngunnawal people on survey methods so that community members can lead monitoring. Data collected will influence Koala habitat restoration. A Workshop will enable sharing of knowledge between the Ngunnawal and other Aboriginal groups to enable sharing of knowledge about Koalas.
