Port Stephens community-led non-invasive Koala genetic & disease study
Purpose:
Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council (WLALC) will perform a non-invasive Koala genetic and disease study in the Port Stephens region of NSW, to complete work begun by RPS Australia East Pty Ltd (RPS) and OWAD to provide a Local Government Area-wide baseline understanding of the health of Port Stephens Koalas. Targeting areas of interest, DNA extracted from scats collected by WLALC will be subjected to a range of key tests and analyses to unveil crucial information about the individuals and identify key population dynamics processes. A comprehensive report will summarise the relevant spatial and molecular findings required to inform effective decision making and conservation actions.
