Grant Activity:
Evaluating probiotic formulations with smart feeder technologies at grazing
Purpose:
The Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions is a Victorian State Government department. Their project aims to evaluate automated feeding of a methane mitigating probiotic to grazing lambs and dairy cows. The project contains a dairy study using auto feeder technology to mimic grazing, that will determine the effect of two formulations of the probiotic on methane emissions and productivity, and a lamb study to examine the feasibility of using an automated Smartfeeder system to feed defined amounts of a probiotic containing supplement to lambs grazing pasture. This project will deliver practical but precise methods of a probiotic additive to improve the delivery of supplementation, feed efficiency, milk yield, lamb growth rates, carcass dressing percentage and mitigate methane emissions.
