Grant Activity:
Dual Time-Scale Sampling Strategies for large farm soil carbon accounting
Purpose:
Large rangeland properties have the potential to be significant carbon sinks, generating large amounts of abatement in the land sector. Very large properties (40-200K+ ha) make up more than 70% of Australia's agricultural area (335 M ha). However, there are currently no proven cost-effective techniques or technologies to measure soil carbon available to managers of large properties. Data-driven sampling strategies can reduce cost of soil measurement by strategically sampling areas of greatest variability, improving the precision of measuring soil sequestration across large areas. With our Dual Time-Scale Sampling Strategy (DTS3), we aim to deliver cost-effective carbon accounting across large areas of Australia's agricultural land.
