Grant Activity:
Guanaba Indigenous Protected Area KoalaHabitat Restoration
Purpose:
Koala habitat at Guanaba Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), near Mount Tamborine in South East Queensland, will be restored by Envite Environment bush regenerators working alongside Indigenous bush regenerators. Koala habitat is degraded and access to food trees blocked by weed infestations including Lantana, Passiflora spp., and other weeds. The local community, including pre-school children, will be engaged in educational activities about koalas and Indigenous cultural heritage. A Koala Habitat Restoration workshop will engage community and showcase project achievements. Project activities will be promoted on local and social media to increase awareness and knowledge of threats to koalas and actions to assist koala recovery.
