Grant Activity:
Enhancing prison-to-community mental healthcare for Aboriginal prisoners
Purpose:
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are incarcerated at an alarming rate and those in prison often suffer with significant mental health need associated with elevated risk of poor outcomes before and after return to the community. The proposed research project aims to test the effectiveness of a new culturally-enhanced and release-focused mental health intervention designed to improve both mental health care in prison and to support the critical prison-to-community transition for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander men and women. The project is led by clinicians and Aboriginal Health workers, and additionally aims to build clinical research capacity in this vitally important field.
