ENHANCEMENT OF EVACUATION FACILITIES FOR BERMAGUI SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB
Purpose:
During the Black Summer bushfires, Bermagui Surf Life Saving Clubs (SLSC) volunteer members took a lead role in the emergency response to the bushfire crisis in the region. The SLSC clubhouse was the local evacuation staging point with over 5,000 evacuees seeking assistance. The club provided shelter, bedding, food, first aid, emotional support and a place of safety for those seeking help.
Following the Black Summer bushfires, a safety audit was undertaken to ensure the building meets recommended standards. To maintain building integrity in the event of future threat of fire and its role as a community hub the external decking will be replaced with fire retardant materials meeting BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) requirements.
