Developing systems and capacities to protect animals in catastrophic fires
Purpose:
Communities experienced trauma and loss from the fires effects on domestic and wild animals. A lack of guidelines or formal organisation exacerbates peoples anxiety. However, community mobilisation that spontaneously emerged provides a resource. The project will (1) conduct research on communities experiences, and factors that facilitated/impeded efforts to produce a needs/capacities analysis. It will (2) facilitate workshops with communities of interest (eg farmers) to identify effective support systems. It will (3) formalise animal protection processes, including community information, emergency plans and recommendations for stakeholders. It will produce resilient processes to support communities in caring for animals in fires.
