Grant Activity:
The Asialoglycoprotein Receptor 1 (ASGR1): a novel target for atherosclerosis
Purpose:
Our group have revealed an exciting new role for protein 'ASGR1' in the development of fatty deposits in blood vessels that cause heart attack and stroke. We will determine if levels of ASGR1 in the blood predicts the presence of fatty deposits in heart and neck vessels of patients. We will also characterise the sugar communication network in these patients. This project will pave the way to a novel blood-based marker for heart disease and stroke that will be supported by novel sugar biomarkers.
