Discovery of new platelet targets to improve the management of coronary artery disease
Purpose:
Only 1 in 4 patients who have suffered from a heart attack will receive long term protection with available treatments. There is a need to find new targets for monitoring and treating patients after their first event. Our research will identify targets on platelets which are blood cells responsible for blood clotting. Using a small amount of blood, we will profile platelet markers from patients recovering from a heart attack. These markers will be used to discover new therapies.
