VLEO Satellite Based Soil Carbon Mapping for Australian Agriculture
Purpose:
This study aims to support low cost soil carbon measurement through the development of more accurate satellite imagery techniques to decrease errors in sequestration estimation. This will leverage ongoing Very-Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) based satellite projects as well as building on emerging technologies which make use of publicly available data from higher orbit satellites. Outcomes will include: determination of the achievable improvement to estimation accuracy using VLEO; determination of existing baseline soil carbon estimation errors and the relationship to costs involved in sequestration estimation; establishment of an expert panel to provide guidance and reviews; preliminary design to support proof of concept testing in later stages.
