Pain Smart: Integrating education and clinical care for adolescents with pain
Purpose:
Like many chronic health conditions, chronic musculoskeletal pain often starts in adolescence but unlike obesity, substance use and mental health there are no broad-scale education initiatives aimed at preventing long term impacts of pain. Further, adolescents who experience disabling pain often do not receive effective care in the health system. Our project is testing a health education intervention delivered to adolescents alongside a managed care approach for those who experience pain.
