Enhance the collection of the Library, updating the digital archive
The Australia Library created the digital archive preserved valuable folk materials related to Australia in the early 1900s with sketches drawn by Kenji Fujita, who spent the late Taisho and early Showa eras (1925-1938) as a pearl diver for pearl fisheries and features photographs of families and friends of a Japanese trading company employee in Australia in the 1930s taken by a renowned Japanese photographer in Australia.
In the future, we will continue to collect materials such as records and photographs that Japanese who went to Australia left there to expand the digital archive. Making the digital archive available free of charge on the Internet will contribute to academic research and social education, as well as promote mutual understanding and good relations between the people of both Japan and Australia in the future. Furthermore, in order to serve as the ultimate domestic information center on Australia in Japan, we plan to collect information and the field where Australia excels, and specific matters on Australia.
