Grant Activity:
Reducing threats to a unique koala population in the Queensland rangelands
Purpose:
Building on scientific advice and landholder interest this project will assist unique rangeland koala populations by identifying and rehabilitating key habitat and reducing threats. Koala populations in western Queensland are at the western edge of the species range. They are facing a huge challenge due to declining habitat, predation, drought, heatwaves and the impacts of climate change. This project will work with First Nations people, local land managers and knowledge holders to:
1. Confirm stronghold areas of current koala populations and improve the habitat values, including landscape linkages, to enhance their resilience to climate change
2. Provide restoration, rehabilitation and other management advice to landholders.
