Grant Activity:
Force-reducing minimalist footwear for adolescents with chronic knee pain: a randomised clinical trial
Purpose:
Patellofemoral (front of knee) pain is the most common cause of chronic musculoskeletal pain in children & adolescents. Current treatments do not work & are not used by this group. Higher knee forces worsen symptoms, so force-reducing ‘minimalist’ shoes (lightweight, & thin flexible soles) may be an effective treatment. We will be the first to assess if minimalist shoes improv symptoms, compared to ‘motion control’ shoes (arch support & cushioned soles), in adolescents with patellofemoral pain.
