Purpose:
This project, led by Koala Action Gympie Region partnering with Gympie & District Landcare Group and Gympie Regional Councils Land for Wildlife program, takes a three pronged approach to improve local koala populations that are in decline and fragmenting due to increased human activity in the Gympie region. Firstly, we will improve connectivity of important Koala Habitat in the Mary River area by planting more than 5,300 trees. Secondly, using drones and detection dogs, we will increase data on local koala populations in this region to ensure effectiveness of current and future conservation efforts. Thirdly, this knowledge along with our Living with Koalas education sessions, will be shared with community to boost local conservation efforts.
