PBS Program Name:
DCCEEW 21/22 Reducing Aus Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Grant Program:
Soil Carbon and Methane
Grant Activity:
In-situ IR sensing for low-cost, accurate detection of soil carbon
Purpose:
The project aims to deliver an optimised, field-based framework for sampling and in-situ measurement of soil organic carbon. We will assess the capability of field-portable, mid-infrared, spectroscopic technology based on ATR sensing for accurate in situ measurement of soil organic carbon, at sensitivities required to detect soil organic carbon accumulation over time. We will also test the efficacy of the CSIRO-developed Adaptive/Rapid Sampling technique as a novel stratification/Sampling Design resource, allowing CSIRO to fast-track the development and adoption of existing methods from the mineral exploration sector for the agricultural sector.
