Purpose:
The project centres on the rural community of Ashford, which has a population of 652 (ABS 2016), with 16.9% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Project benefits are expected to reach the entire population of Ashford and works include replacement of the towns playground in McRae Park, upgrading the Ashford main street by installing interpretive heritage signage in the Ashford CBD to celebrate the districts cultural heritage and also planting six shade trees in the CBD along with bench seating. The project will assist this disadvantaged community to build social resilience and build upon existing projects to improve Ashfords liveability, economic recovery and sense of community pride.
