Purpose:
The proposed project will build a structure to accommodate the Fine Arts section of the Canungra Show. The Applicant has stated that the project will address recovery and resilience by improving community connection and providing a secure and safe space for local residents in the event of a natural disaster.
The Possum Hut would have been an essential resource in the 2019 bush fires that raged through our community. The Canungra Show grounds was a central HUB for locals to set up camp with their animals when they were deemed at risk of the impending fires. Had the possum hut been available, it would have been used for housing some of the affected residents. Locals set up camps on the grounds for weeks.
