The purpose of this grant is to support the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in the continuation of their activities to inspire and engage young students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

NYSF is a not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of residential programs to encourage young people in their passion for STEM. Their programs show the wide variety of engaging, rewarding and inspiring study and career options available in STEM fields.

The objectives of this grant opportunity are to:

• encourage young Australians (under 18 years of age) to consider taking up careers in STEM
• promote all aspects of the NYSF program in order to build the profile and prestige of science in Australia, particularly amongst diverse cohorts and groups historically under-represented in STEM, in line with the Government’s commitment to diversity in STEM.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are:

• to develop and deliver programs offering opportunities for STEM engagement
• to raise awareness of and participation in the NYSF programs
• to undertake selection processes, where appropriate, to identify students who will participate in the NYSF programs
• increased participation of Australian students in STEM and science enrichment activities, particularly amongst diverse cohorts and groups historically under-represented in STEM, in line with the Government’s commitment to diversity in STEM  
• to support other NYSF initiatives such as alumni events.

The National Youth Science Forum (ABN 99 478 516 183) has been identified as the appropriate recipient because:

• it has a well-established record of delivering the same or similar activities
• it has the required technical expertise to undertake the activities
• the nature of the grant activity is specifically dependent on the expertise of The National Youth Science Forum
• there are a limited number of service providers capable of delivering the project.

The maximum project period is 4 years.

The earliest start date for this opportunity is 1 July 2024.
