Description:

The grant aims to develop the cultural awareness and trauma responsiveness of the child and family sector organisations and workforce engaged through the Department of Social Services’ grants funding (the program). The grant will run over 2 years from 2022–23 to 2023–24 financial years.

The program is funded under Outcome 2: Program 2.2.1: National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children, and was announced as part of the 2021 Commonwealth Closing the Gap Implementation Plan. This grant opportunity supports Target 12 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (the National Agreement), which is:

By 2031, reduce the rate of over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care by 45 per cent.

The National Agreement has been developed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, marking a fundamental shift in the way governments are working to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are leading the decisions that impact their lives. The National Agreement details 4 Priority Reforms and 17 targets to transform how governments work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to accelerate progress, please see Closing the Gap targets and outcomes.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply, your entity must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Applications from consortia are acceptable, as long as you have a lead applicant who is solely accountable to the Commonwealth for the delivery of grant activities and is an eligible entity as per the eligibility criteria above. The consortia must be set up prior to submitting an application.

Grant Activity Timeframe:
  • Assessment of applications – 4 weeks
  • Approval of outcomes of selection process – 4 weeks
  • Negotiations and award of grant agreements – Up to 4 weeks
  • Notification to unsuccessful applicants – 2 weeks
  • Earliest start date of grant activity – January 2023
  • End date of grant activity – 30 June 2024.
