Description:

The MRFF 2022 Quality, Safety and Effectiveness of Medicine Use and Medicine Intervention by Pharmacists grant is part of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) and the Preventive and Public Health Research Initiative. This 4 stream program will fund organisations to undertake research to support innovative approaches to improve the quality and cost?effectiveness of preventive healthcare interventions.

The objective of this program is to provide grants to Australian medical research and medical innovation projects that align with the following streams:

  • Stream 1: assess the feasibility (including cost effectiveness, and acceptability by patients and prescribing health professionals) of pharmacogenomic interventions by community pharmacists designed to optimise medication prescription and use
  • Stream 2: assess the feasibility (including cost effectiveness, scalability, and acceptability by patients and prescribing health professionals) of pharmacogenomic interventions to optimise the prescription and use of medicines for treating patients with cancer (oncology and supportive care)
  • Stream 3: implement, validate, and cost approaches that involve community and hospital pharmacists collaborating to improve medication management at transition into the community
  • Stream 4: implement, validate, and cost approaches for pharmacist interventions in residential aged care using objective patient focused indicators.

The outcomes of the research funded by this grant is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by supporting the safe and effective use of prescription medicines, quality of care provided to patients, reducing hospital readmissions due to medication complications and evidence to support the safe and effective use of medicines in residential aged care.

Eligibility:

You can apply if you meet the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria are a set of rules that describe who we can consider for this grant. You can apply if you:

  • are an eligible entity
  • have an eligible project
  • have eligible expenditure.

You can apply if you:

  • have an Australian business number (ABN)
  • are incorporated in Australia

You must also be one of the following entities:

  • a medical research institute
  • a university
  • a corporate Commonwealth entity
  • a corporation (including businesses and not for profits).

You can’t apply if you are:

  • an organisation, or your project partner is an organisation, included on the National Redress Scheme’s list of Institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme
  • an individual
  • a partnership
  • an unincorporated association
  • a trust (however, an incorporated trustee may apply on behalf of a trust)
  • a non-corporate Commonwealth entity
  • any organisation not listed in the eligible entity list.
