Continuation of Jurisdictional Coordination Units to support the National Rural Generalist Pathway
This grant will provide funding to Coordination Units in each State and the Northern Territory. Coordination Units are the main conduit that bridge the gap between the national objectives of the National Rural Generalist Pathway and jurisdictional programs and are a core component of the Pathway by facilitating a smooth transition between the stages of rural generalist training for junior doctors and Rural Generalist GP registrars.
Coordination Units will work collaboratively with key sector stakeholders to improve workforce supply by coordinating the training pipeline for rural generalists and developing a strong link between hospital and primary care training settings.
The purpose of this grant opportunity is to provide Commonwealth funding to continue the work of Coordination Units established under an earlier grant arrangement in each State and the Northern Territory. This will continue alignment of jurisdictional rural generalist programs towards the National Rural Generalist Pathway. This is consistent with the key recommendations made in the advice paper that underpins the implementation of the National Rural Generalist Pathway (Advice to the National Rural Health Commissioner on the development of the National Rural Generalist Pathway – December 2018).
Coordination Units help to facilitate a smooth transition for rural generalist trainees through the various education and training components for the first six years of post-graduate training.
