Description:

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to provide new Commonwealth funding for the Drug Information Directory and the Help and Support Projects (hereafter referred to as DID) beyond the timeframe of the previous grant opportunity, that will directly support efforts to increase the quality and quantity of drug use data in Australia. The DID is a web-based national alcohol and other drugs (AOD) information service that disseminates drug information to the general community, including parents, schools, health professionals and policy makers. The DID is also used by the Commonwealth to monitor online drug and alcohol search trends. The DID has been funded by the Commonwealth since 2001, via the Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF).

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

  • maintain and enhance the DID as a premier Australian search engine for web-based alcohol and other drug information;
  • ensure that DID is the most comprehensive searchable Australian database of quality assured Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) information on the Internet;
  • maintain and enhance the DID as an effective and cost efficient service; and
  • undertake an evaluation of the DID project.

The intended outcome of the grant opportunity is to increase public access to reliable AOD information. This can be undertaken through the:

  • updating and maintenance of the DID across the length of the grant agreement;
  • review and update DID Quality Assurance Framework;
  • evaluation of quality improvements;
  • development of inclusive content for workforce development needs as identified under the National Alcohol and Other Drug Workforce Development Strategy, and future revisions; and
  • delivery of information based on where people are sitting in the AOD continuum of use.

Eligibility:

To be eligible, you must be the Alcohol and Drug Foundation Inc. (ABN: 66 057 731 192).

The Alocohol and Drug Foundation (ADF) is invited to participate in this grant opportunity as they have been assessed to have:

  • capability to deliver the project activities in the project location;
  • existing infrastructure and relationships to support the project activities; and
  • knowledge of and capability to deliver to the project objectives and outcomes.
  • demonstrated value with relevant money to deliver the project activities in the current market.

The ADF has a highly successful and longstanding relationship with the department, and has overseen a number of information and communication orientated projects and grant agreements that have contributed to AOD policy and development. This includes the development, maintenance and ongoing reporting of data relating to the DID website without any significant failures to deliver on objectives, and the development of two media campaigns to reduce harmful alcohol consumption. ADF has consolidated existing AOD connections and networks that will be beneficial during this activity, and have previously demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time with minimal administrative or financial burden to the department, within the allocated funding for these projects.

The department has previously provided funding for this project, and have found that ADF is the most suitable candidate for a project of this size and nature.

Total Amount Available (AUD):

$650,000.00
