Background
The NHMRC e-ASIA Joint Research Program supports Australian participation and collaboration in leading international research through the e-ASIA Joint Research Program (e-ASIA JRP). The e-ASIA JRP supports international joint research projects in the East Asia region.
The e-ASIA JRP selects research projects through an open call for proposals. Fields of cooperation are decided among the e-ASIA participating member organisations and funding is for up to three years.
Eligible Topics
NHMRC is supporting Australian researchers for the following research topic in the e-ASIA JRP 11th Health Research call:
- Infectious Diseases (and Antimicrobial Resistance)

Applications will only be accepted from NHMRC-approved Administering Institutions. A list of NHMRC-approved Administering Institutions and NHMRC’s Administering Institution policy are available on NHMRC’s website.

Applications must satisfy all the requirements set out in the NHMRC e-ASIA 2022 Joint Research Program Guidelines.
Applications will be excluded from consideration if the following eligibility requirements are not met:
- There must be a minimum of three member organisations participating in a call topic.
- Attachment of the e-ASIA Common Application to the NHMRC application form.
- Member organisations from other e-ASIA countries must be supporting the topic in the call for applications. It is the applicant’s responsibility to verify the member organisation participation in respective calls.
- The application must address the research topics for the Health Research 11th call.
- NHMRC requires that collaborations must include a lead PrincipaI Investigator (PI) (refer to section 4.1) or PI from at least one of the participating member organisations from the following countries:
o Philippines
o Thailand
Applications specific to each participating member organisation must be completed by the Chief Investigator A (CIA) in their country (e.g. Australian CIA submit to NHMRC while the Japanese CIA submit to Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development).

Applications must be submitted electronically using NHMRC’s online https://healthandmedicalresearch.gov.au/ unless otherwise advised by NHMRC.
A complete NHMRC e-ASIA JRP Scheme application must consist of the following:
- Completion of all elements of the NHMRC e-ASIA online application form;
- Completion of all elements of the Sapphire My Profile section;
- An uploaded PDF document containing your Grant Proposal; and
- An uploaded PDF copy of the submitted e-ASIA Common Application form.
Note – The common application form must be first submitted to the e-ASIA JRP secretariat by the collaborative project Lead Principal Investigator (PI). The Common Application form is available from the e-ASIA website.
Minimum data must be entered into NHMRC’s granting system by 17:00 AEDT on 2 March 2022.
