Description:

The Research, prevention and treatment of allergies and anaphylaxis grant opportunity (the grant opportunity) will run over 4 years from 2022-23 to 2025-26. The funding was announced as part of the 2022-23 Budget’s Prioritising mental health, preventive health and sport measure. The funding will support the Commonwealth-specific recommendations 1, 2, 5, 8, 19 and 21 of the report by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport into allergies and anaphylaxis.

This grant opportunity includes two streams of funding, both of which are aimed at providing a national standardised approach to addressing allergic disease and anaphylaxis.

Stream 1: The purpose of this stream is to establish a National Allergy Council, which will coordinate a national approach to addressing allergies and will support recommendations 1, 5, 8, 19 and 21 of the report by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport into allergies and anaphylaxis. The National Allergy Council will implement a range of projects to improve allergy and anaphylaxis prevention, management, and treatment.

Stream 2: The purpose of this stream is to establish a National Allergy Centre of Excellence to centralise research on food, drug, vaccine, insect, and respiratory allergies. The National Allergy Centre of Excellence will be based on four ‘pillars’ - an Allergy Research Hub, a Repository and Discovery Hub, and Evidence and Translation Hub, and a Training and Innovation Hub.
