Dementia Carer Respite and Education Program – First Stage Implementation
This closed, non-competitive (ad-hoc) grant opportunity outlines funding available for the first stage of implementation of the Dementia Carer Respite and Education Program (the Program).
The Program aims to deliver innovative, combined models of respite care for people living with dementia and their carers, with a particular focus on respite care and opportunistic education for carers.
The expected outcomes of the Program include:
- The wellbeing of carers of people with dementia is maintained or improved, including by maintaining or reducing levels of carer burden;
- Improvements in quality of life for the person with dementia and their carer;
- Carers have greater knowledge, skills and capability to care for a person living with dementia at home;
- People living with dementia stay at home for longer, delaying entry to permanent residential care; and
- The experience of and quality of respite care for people living with dementia and their carers are improved (together with other dementia respite care measures).
This is the first grant opportunity under the Program to implement the first stage of program delivery. The purpose of the grant opportunity is to:
- Establish and deliver combined respite care (based on the Going to Stay at Home Program and other innovative models) for people living with dementia and their carers; and
- Undertake activities to support aged care providers to adopt and deliver similar models of respite care under future grant opportunities.
