FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022
The purpose of the grant is to support Basketball Australia (BA) to host the Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022. Hosting rights for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 were awarded to Australia on 27 March 2020, with the event scheduled to occur in September and October 2022.
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup is the world’s largest international women’s basketball competition and the 2022 version will feature 12 basketball nations competing over 10 days at Sydney Olympic Park.
This grant opportunity is for a total of $5.0 million in 2021-22 and contributes to the achievement of the Sport and Recreation Program, which aims to make Australia the world’s most active sporting nation, known for its integrity, sporting success and world leading sports industry.

Basketball Australia (ABN: 57 072 484 998) is invited to apply for this grant opportunity as it has been assessed to have:
- capability to deliver the project activities;
- existing infrastructure and relationships to support the project activities; and
- knowledge of and capability to deliver to the project objectives and outcomes.
Basketball Australia is the peak national sporting organisation and governing body for basketball in Australia, as well as a member of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball.
Basketball Australia has been awarded hosting rights for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 by FIBA, and is therefore the only organisation eligible to deliver the event in Australia.
