UCI Road World Championships Wollongong 2022
The purpose of the grant is to support Wollongong 2022 Limited to host the UCI Road World Championships to be held in Wollongong between 18 and 25 September 2022. The UCI Road World Championships 2022 will see more than 1,000 top international cyclists from over 70 nations compete in one of the globe’s largest, most sustainable and prestigious events which will deliver significant tourism, economic and social benefits to the country while inspiring Australians towards a healthy and active lifestyle.
The total funding amount for this grant opportunity is $2,650,000 over two years (2021-22 to 2022-23). It contributes to the achievement of the Sport and Recreation Program, which aims to make Australia the world’s most active sporting nation, known for its integrity, sporting success and world leading sports industry.

Wollongong 2022 Limited is eligible for this grant opportunity as it has been assessed to have:
- capability to deliver the grant activities in the project location
- existing infrastructure and relationships to support the project activities
- experience and capability to deliver the grant objectives and outcomes
- demonstrated value for money to deliver outcomes in the current market.
Wollongong 2022 Limited is the local organising committee responsible for the delivery of the 2022 UCI Road World Championships. The not-for-profit company was incorporated as a subsidiary of AusCycling in October 2018. The event was previously successfully delivered in Geelong, Victoria in 2010.
UCI awarded hosting rights for the UCI Road World Championships 2022 to Wollongong. It’s organising committee, Wollongong 2022 Limited, therefore is considered the only eligible organisation to receive funding for this grant opportunity.
