Description:

The Agriculture Biodiversity Stewardship’s Carbon + Biodiversity Pilot (the C+B Pilot) is a component of the Australian Government’s Agriculture Stewardship Package. The package will create new market-based mechanisms that reward farmers for improving environmental outcomes on agricultural land.

The C+B Pilot is trialling arrangements to reward farmers for improving on-farm biodiversity together with carbon projects under the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF). The second round of the pilot is being run in six Natural Resource Management (NRM) regions:

•  Fitzroy Basin, Queensland;

•  Riverina, New South Wales;

•  Goulburn-Broken in Victoria;

•  NRM South in Tasmania;

•  Northern and Yorke in South Australia; 

•  South Coast in Western Australia.

Eligibility:

The Eligibility Criteria for the Agriculture Biodiversity Stewardship – Carbon + Biodiversity Pilot Round 2 is set out in Section 4 of the Grant Opportunity Guidelines.

This section provides information on eligible applicants and what projects are eligible for funding.

Grant Activity Timeframe:

Applications open: 16 December 2021 and close 03 March 2022 17:00 AEDT.

Assessment of applications during March and early April and payment offers shortly thereafter.

Applicant consideration of participation agreement 4 weeks in April 2022.

Application seeking of professional advice, registration with Emissions Reduction Fund and signing of C+B project agreement 6 months from date offer was received.

Undertake plantings: Within 9 months of signing the C+B project agreement.

End date of activity or agreement: 25 years after the date on which the contract is signed.

Total Amount Available (AUD):

$18,800,000.00

Complete the application through the National Stewardship Trading Platform accessed at

agsteward.com.au

The website will ask for a range of details, about you, your property, and the plantings you propose to undertake. The required information will be explained on the C+B application checklist, to help you assemble any relevant documents.

This will include confirming you hold the freehold title or exclusive possession native title to the property or have the right to use the property from the title holder (lease) for the 25 year project period and that it is predominantly used for agricultural purposes.

You will be required to plot where the planting areas will be established on your property or properties.

And submit cost estimates for your project.

Other Instructions:

All successful C + B applicants will be required to register with the ERF and undertake a new mixed-species environmental plantings project using the Reforestation by environmental or mallee plantings FullCAM method. The department can support participants register, as well as provide guidance on reporting requirements and other elements of the ERF.
