Description:

The purpose of the grant is to improve media literacy and increase community engagement on communications issues that affect multicultural communities. This will be achieved through the delivery of an open-competitive small funding program to recipient community organisations providing funding of between $5,000 and $10,000 to develop and/or deliver media literacy resources.

The objectives of the grant are to support the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia Inc to develop and administer a small funding program:

  • focused on the delivery of media literacy information and education resources to CALD communities across Australia
  • that assists community groups to lead grassroots communication strategies to improve media literacy and provide information on identification of deceptive information to combat misinformation and disinformation to CALD communities
  • supports development and delivery of resources in a tailored, culturally sensitive and targeted way to increase reach and awareness into CALD communities to counter misinformation and increase economic and civic engagement
  • to promote inclusion and participation in community life and build socially cohesive communities.

The intended outcomes of the grant are:

  • improved media literacy, identification of deceptive information and critical engagement with media messages in CALD communities
  • information and education resources specifically developed for a range of multicultural communities, and increased reach of trusted information into CALD communities
  • reduced vulnerability of CALD communities to deceptive information such as scams, including investment scams.
Eligibility:

You must be the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia Inc (FECCA) (ABN 23 684 792 947).

Grant Activity Timeframe:

You must complete your project by 30 June 2025.

Total Amount Available (AUD):

$1,500,000.00
