Upskilling Aged Care Kitchens
This grant opportunity was announced as part of the 2026–27 Budget and will provide funding to the Maggie Beer Foundation (MBF) to design, deliver and promote a national aged care food and nutrition education program for chefs, cooks and other aged care staff. This grant opportunity is an extension of the 2022-23 Budget measure ‘Better Food for Aged Care Residents’ to 30 June 2030.
The grant aims to increase industry uptake of practical, evidence-based food and nutrition training through multiple delivery methods, build workforce capability, support compliance with Standard 6 (Food and Nutrition) of the Aged Care Quality Standards and relevant in-home aged care meal requirements, promote person-centred dining practices, and establish sustainable education resources for ongoing sector use.
Expected outcomes include improved food quality, nutrition and dining experiences for aged care recipients; enhanced workforce capability; strengthened support for providers to meet their regulatory requirements; greater adoption of better-practice food and nutrition approaches across the sector; and the creation of sustainable resources and systems that continue to deliver benefits beyond the grant period.
Funding of $6,852,000 is available over four years from 2026-27 to 2029-30.
