Description:

This grant opportunity was announced as part of the 2023-24 Budget Measure Continuing Investment in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) prevention, diagnosis and support and supports the implementation of the National Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Strategic Action Plan 2018-2028 (FASD Action Plan). 

The FASD Action Plan outlines four key national priorities to catalyse a national effort in the prevention, diagnosis, support and management of FASD in Australia, including:   

  • Prevention  
  • Screening and Diagnosis  
  • Support and Management  
  • Priority groups and Populations at increased risk.  

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to support the continuation of FASD prevention, diagnosis and support activities, to ensure essential services can continue to deliver improved health outcomes for Australians living with FASD, their families and carers.   

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to: 

  • Increase community knowledge and awareness about the harms and consequences of drinking during pregnancy or when planning a pregnancy.  
  • Increase screening, diagnostic skills and knowledge in frontline professionals.  
  • Improve capacity for screening, diagnosis and surveillance. 
  • Implement and evaluate better models of management, support and care. 
  • Support parents, carers and families, including in education and employment settings.  
  • Continue to support and evaluate targeted strategies and models of care for groups who are at higher risk than the general population. 

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to: 

  • Reduce the prevalence of FASD in Australia;  
  • Reduce the associated impact of FASD; and  
  • Improve the quality of life for people living with FASD.

The Organisations listed above have been invited to apply for this grant opportunity as they have been assessed to have: 

  • The required capacity to deliver and manage the Streams of activities outlined in Section 5.1; 
  • Existing relationships with FASD stakeholders to support the project activities; and  
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering the objectives and outcomes of this grant opportunity.  

Applications from consortia are acceptable, providing there is a lead organisation that is solely accountable to the Commonwealth for the delivery of grant activities and is an eligible entity as per the list above. Only the lead organisation can submit the application form and enter into a grant agreement with the Commonwealth. Eligible organisations can form a consortium with ineligible organisations, with the exception of those organisations deemed ineligible because they are included on the National Redress Scheme’s website on the list of ‘Institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme’.
