This grant opportunity will allow continued Commonwealth funding for Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) research that will directly support efforts to increase the quality and quantity of drug use data in Australia. Further evidence-informed responses are a key principle of the National Drug Strategy.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are:
 - prevention and early intervention activities relating to drug and alcohol misuse and promoting evidence-based information and education;
 - the development of evidence-base behind drug and alcohol treatment service delivery and associated national policies; and
 - the development and collection of national drug and alcohol related data and the production of associated reports.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to support the delivery of novel, high-quality research on alcohol and other drug use.  Funding will be used to support the core operations of the institutions carrying out research programs that align with the three pillars of the National Drug Strategy, being:
 - harm reduction strategies to reduce drug-related harm to individuals and communities;
 - demand reduction strategies to prevent the uptake of harmful drug use, including abstinence orientated strategies and treatment to reduce drug use; and
 - supply reduction strategies to disrupt the production and supply of illicit drugs, and the control and regulation of illicit substances.
