The Addressing Critical Psychology Shortages - Postgraduate Psychology Incentive Program aims to support higher education providers who have created additional postgraduate psychology places in courses which lead to general registration and can lead to relevant areas of practice endorsement.

The grant opportunity will be available over four separate grant rounds (with one opening each financial year) and will provide up to $55.8 million over four years from 2023-24.

Round 1 (this grant opportunity) will provide up to $11.9 million in 2023-24 to higher education providers to support additional postgraduate psychology places in courses which lead to general registration and relevant areas of practice endorsement.

To be eligible, higher education providers must meet an 8.7% yearly minimum growth rate in student enrolments across eligible postgraduate psychology courses. Providers will be required to increase intake based on the respective 2023 cohort and create at least one new Commonwealth Support Place each year.

Eligibility:

To apply for funding under this grant opportunity you must:

  • have an Australian Business Number
  • be registered for the purposes of GST
  • have an account with an Australian financial institution
  • be an Australian higher education provider approved to:
  1. offer Commonwealth Supported Places; and
  2. offer postgraduate psychology courses which lead to general registration and can lead to the following areas of practice endorsement (outlined on the Psychology Board of Australia website):

o clinical neuropsychology

o clinical psychology

o community psychology

o counselling psychology, or

o health psychology, and

  • be one of the following entity types:
  1. an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation (registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006)
  2. company
  3. corporate Commonwealth entity
  4. non-corporate Commonwealth statutory authority
  5. corporate state or territory entity
  6. non-corporate state or territory Entity
  7. non-corporate state or territory statutory authority
  8. local government
  9. cooperative
  10. incorporated association
  11. other incorporated entity
  12. statutory entity
  13. partnership, or
  14. unincorporated association.

You must also provide the completed Data Summary Template available on GrantConnect signed by an authorised officer which demonstrates and provides confirmation of:

  • the enrolled number of postgraduate psychology places by course in 2023 and 2024
  • the number of enrolled postgraduate psychology places in your 2024 cohort meets the 8.7% growth rate as compared to 2023, and
  • at least one of the new postgraduate psychology places in 2024 is a CSP.
