Inspiring Australia Science Engagement Program - Eureka Prizes 2024 - 2027
The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are the country’s most comprehensive national science awards, honouring excellence across the areas of research & innovation, leadership, science engagement, and school science. The Eureka Prizes raise the profile of science and science engagement in the community by celebrating outstanding achievement.
The Department provides three years of grant funding ($75,000 per year, maximum $225,000 over 3 years) to the Australian Museum through a closed non-competitive grant. The grant supports the Australian Museum’s annual Eureka Prizes including event administration and promotional costs, prize money and secretariat support for two Eureka Prizes awarded each year for three consecutive years:
- The Department of Industry, Science and Resources Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science
- The Department of Industry, Science and Resources Eureka Prize for STEM Inclusion.
Both prizes sit under the Science Engagement category of the Eureka Prizes, designed to encourage and contribute to greater public engagement with the sciences.
The objectives of the grant opportunity are:
- positive public perception and increased recognition of citizen science and its achievements
- increased awareness of, and participation in, citizen science in the wider community through events, projects and activities
- increased research and innovation in citizen science projects
- increased engagement and participation of a diverse range of Australians, especially those historically underrepresented in STEM
- financial support for the administration, promotion and delivery of the two Eureka Prizes in each of the three consecutive years, including costs associated with the annual Eureka Prizes awards events.
The intended outcome of the grant opportunity is the award of prize money for two Eureka Prizes awarded annually for three consecutive years that will reward innovation in citizen science and promote inclusivity in STEM culture.
The Australian Museum Trust, ABN 85 407 224 698 has been identified as the appropriate recipient because:
- it has a well-established record having successfully delivered the Eureka Prizes since 1990
