Edge of Nowhere (EON) Foundation Thriving Communities Program
The Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme funds a range of activities including primary health care, child, maternal and family health, and chronic disease prevention and management.
The purpose of the grant in this Grant Opportunity Guideline is to support primary prevention activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and adults by encouraging healthy lifestyles through nutrition and sustained health practices. The objectives of the grants are:
- Continue to deliver the Thriving Communities Program in remote Aboriginal communities and schools currently funded under the Program in the Northern Territory and Western Australia, to promote nutrition, food security, job training and skills.
- Establish and foster community gardens in communities currently funded under the Program that are used to provide healthy meals to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
- Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women, and children by providing access to fresh produce, adopting healthier lifestyles, and reduce their risk of chronic disease.
The intended outcomes of the grant is to:
- Establish edible gardens in agreed communities and schools currently funded under the Program, that can continue to be used and developed beyond the life of the Program.
- Provide sustainable education, training and skills for local people to assist and maintain healthy eating practices and the development of local gardens in communities currently funded under the Program.

The eligible organisations are invited to apply for this grant opportunity as they have been assessed to have:
- capability to deliver the project activities and demonstrated ability to have done successfully delivered these activities in the past;
- existing infrastructure and relationships to support the project activities;
- experience and capability to deliver the grant objectives and outcomes; and
- demonstrated value for money to deliver outcomes in the current market.
