Description:

The purpose of the grant is to support the early development and long-term health outcomes of Aboriginal children from non-working and/or low income, disadvantaged families through the Child Health and Development Centre Ampe Rlterrke Amangkeme (CHAD).

The grant opportunity will allow the continuation of service delivery, providing the following preventive interventions targeting children between 0 and 3.5 years of age who are at high risk of developmental delay: * comprehensive developmental assessment for children with identified concerns including provision of health checks, health screening activities, immunisations and referrals to specialist health care providers when required; * provision of health advice to the parents and/or carers of the children including improving nutrition and hygiene; and * early intervention (infant and toddler clinic) to target children with developmental delays and associated social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The grant contributes to the achievement of outcomes under Outcome 1 - Health Access and Support Services, Program 1.3 – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Priority 19 – Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme (IAHP).

The objectives of the program are:

 - the provision of allied health services, child health checks, developmental assessments and monitoring, early detection and case coordination to ensure treatment is provided for key health conditions.

The intended outcomes of the program are:

 - improved early childhood health and development outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0 to 3.5 years who face complex challenges due to their health concerns and social disadvantage.
