Description:

This grant opportunity is part of the Medical Research Future Fund Preventative and Public Health Research Initiative.

It looks to support Australian medical research and medical innovation projects that conduct small scale developmental projects that investigate the common pathophysiological mechanisms and pathways of disease or disease-related complications, focused on patients at higher risk of poor outcomes with:

  • Topic A: any type of diabetes, including atypical or mixed phenotypes
  • Topic B: cardiovascular disease and type 1 diabetes
  • Topic C: cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Applicants can apply for more than one topic with different applications, but can only submit one application per topic.

For each topic, the top 2 ranked applications overall and the next 2 highest ranked applications led by early to mid-career researchers will be funded.

This grant opportunity is intended to support early stage, small scale research projects that seek to assess the potential and feasibility of novel strategies to address critical or intractable health issues.

The intended outcome of the research funded by this grant opportunity is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by generating knowledge to support new diagnostics, devices and therapies for people living with cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
