Description:

The Emerging Priorities and Consumer-Driven Research Initiative (the Initiative) aims to enable or support research that improves patient care and translation of new discoveries and encourage collaboration between consumers and researchers. Funding from this Initiative will support the development of new diagnoses, treatments and cures, and the translation of new discoveries into clinical practice. 

The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that: 

  • Stream 1 (Targeted Call for Research):establish a national childhood brain cancer clinical trial consortium
  • Stream 2 (Targeted Call for Research): conduct novel pre-clinical and/or early stage clinical research to improve understanding of paediatric brain cancer and/or generate new therapies and treatments for paediatric brain cancer. 

This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

Eligibility:

Applications will only be accepted from NHMRC approved Eligible Organisations. A list of NHMRC approved MRFF Eligible Organisations is available from the GrantConnect GO Documents and from the MRFF Eligible Organisations Institutions list on the NHMRC website.

Applications must satisfy all the requirements set out in the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) 2024 Paediatric Brain Cancer Research Grant Guidelines

Grant Activity Timeframe:

The maximum grant period that can be applied for in each Stream is as follows: 

  • Stream 1 (TCR): 7 years 
  • Stream 2 (TCR): 3 years 
Total Amount Available (AUD):

$20,000,000.00

Estimated Grant Value (AUD):

From $0.00 to $14,000,000.00

Instructions for Application Submission:

Applicants are advised to read the Grant Guidelines thoroughly and liaise with the MRFF Eligible Organisation that will submit the application to identify any specific requirements that the organisation might have.

Applicants must: 

  • specify the Stream to which they are applying,  
  • submit to one of the two Streams only,
  • select the relevant stream specific application form in Sapphire 

Applications must be submitted electronically using NHMRC’s online granting system (Sapphire). 

Other Instructions:

Minimum Data closes at 5:00pm (ACT Local Time) on 22 May 2024.

Questions should be submitted no later than 1:00pm (ACT Local Time) on 12 June 2024.
