Description:

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Australian Brain Cancer Mission (the Mission) aims to double the survival rates and improve the quality of life of people with brain cancer, with the longer-term aim of defeating brain cancer. The $136.66 million Mission comprises an initial $50 million commitment from the Australian Government through the MRFF, plus an additional $10.26 million committed to brain cancer research, and Mission Funding Partner commitments of $76.4 million.

The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide a grant of financial assistance to support an Australian medical research and medical innovation project that through a national consortium:

  • develops, enhances and integrates brain cancer research infrastructure platforms
  • enables and promotes new and improved research approaches and methodologies
  • enables and promotes accessibility and the ongoing use of the brain cancer research infrastructure by researchers and clinicians.

The intended outcome of the research is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by developing new approaches for addressing brain cancer by generating knowledge that enables the development of new approaches, treatments and therapies that accelerate progress in improving the diagnosis and care for patients with brain cancer.

Applicants to this grant opportunity must propose to conduct research that delivers against the above objectives and those of the Australian Brain Cancer Mission as described in the Roadmap. Applicants are encouraged to propose novel and/or innovative research and describe how the outcomes of the research will be translated into health benefits for Australians.

This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health.
