The 2023 Strategic Policy Grants Program aims to shape public debates relevant to Australia’s strategic circumstances, strengthen Australia’s defence partnerships, and inform Defence’s strategic policy advice by supporting independent activities focused on Defence’s purpose, mission, and priorities.

The 2023 SPGP is global in scope. 

Individuals must apply for the 2023 SPGP on behalf of an organisation, for example, a university or think tank, which holds an Australian Business Number or international equivalent.
If individuals working for more than one organisation (such as different universities or think tanks) wish to deliver a project collaboratively through the 2023 SPGP, they must appoint a lead organisation to submit one application form on behalf of the consortium.

The 2023 SPGP will run over three years, from 2023 to 2025.

Applicants are to read the Grant Opportunity Guidelines prior to applying for a Strategic Policy Grant. Applications are to be lodged via email to  sp.grants@defence.gov.au using the application form attached to this Grant Opportunity.
