Description:

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to allow the initiative to incorporate strategies in response to the findings of the Program and initiative level evaluations, further embed and deepen engagement with learning environments and educators to achieve outcomes.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

  • increase the capacity of early childhood services, and primary and secondary schools to implement an approach to evidence-based mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention;
  • support individual educators and early childhood staff to build their capacity and confidence in evidence-based mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention knowledge and skills, to support children and students;
  •  increase the inclusion and coverage of mental health and suicide prevention in pre-service education through the tertiary and Vocational Education Training sectors for teachers and early childhood staff; and
  • deliver suicide postvention support to respond to, and assist, secondary schools in supporting students in the event of a suicide of a student.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are:

  • schools / early learning services, and individual educators/staff delivering and supporting promotion, prevention and early intervention mental health and wellbeing information, activities and supports;
  • the building of mental health and wellbeing awareness, development and resilience skills in children and young people;
  • the building of mental health and wellbeing awareness, development and resilience skills in educators and early childhood staff in respect to their own mental health; and
  • provision of national leadership and advice to government, to support and embed positive and safe learning environments in early childhood services and schools, to improve mental health and wellbeing.
