Description:

The purpose of the Edge of Nowhere (EON) Foundation Thriving Communities Program grant in this Grant Opportunity Guideline is to support primary prevention activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and adults by encouraging healthy lifestyles through nutrition and sustained health practices.

The objectives of the grant are to:

  • Establish and foster community gardens that are used to provide healthy meals to local First Nations children and their families.
  • Support First Nations men, women, and children by providing access to fresh produce, adopting healthier lifestyles, and reduce their risk of chronic disease.
  • Train local senior students and adult community members to ensure sustainability and job creation with local job networks.

The intended outcomes of the grants are to:

  • Establish edible gardens in remote First Nations communities and schools that can continue to be used and developed at the cessation of the program.

Provide education, training and skills for local people to assist and maintain healthy eating practices and the development of local gardens.
