This closed, non-competitive grant opportunity will fund an organisation to deliver Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led antenatal and postnatal care that provides mothers with 24/7 access to known midwives and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family support workers for the duration of the mothers pregnancy and birth, in the Brisbane North and Moreton Bay regions until 30 June 2021. The grant will support the delivery of high quality, comprehensive, culturally appropriate primary health care services including contraception and sexual health services, pregnancy education and advice, pre-pregnancy screening and care, pregnancy testing and counselling.
The funded organisation will continue to deliver a unique model of care that will provide access to a culturally appropriate, continuity of midwifery care model in a primary care setting to women pregnant with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander baby and demonstrate improvements in maternal and infant health outcomes through targeted interventions including reductions in preterm birth, caesarean sections, smoking in pregnancy, low birth weights, infant mortality and babies admitted to neonatal surgery.
