Description:

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) - Preventive and Public Health Research Initiative - 2023 Maternal Health and Healthy Lifestyles Grant Opportunity aims to provide grants of financial assistance to support health and medical research and innovation to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians.

The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that:

  • Stream 1 (Targeted Call for Research): develop new scalable approaches to improve maternal and/or early childhood nutrition and exercise
  • Stream 2 (Targeted Call for Research): develop new scalable approaches to reduce alcohol and other drug use by adolescents and young adults
  • Stream 3 (Targeted Call for Research): develop new co-designed and scalable lifestyle interventions to reduce the risk of chronic diseases in Priority Populations.

The intended outcome of the research funded by this grant opportunity is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by:

  • Stream 1 (Targeted Call for Research): reducing mortality and morbidity in mothers and babies and/or morbidity in early childhood
  • Stream 2 (Targeted Call for Research): reducing the harm caused by alcohol and drug use by adolescents and young adults
  • Stream 3 (Targeted Call for Research): reducing the incidence of chronic diseases by improving modifiable lifestyle-related risk factors in Priority Populations.

Applicants to this grant opportunity must propose research that addresses one of the three Streams of research. An application may only be submitted to one of the above three Streams only. Applicants must specify the Stream to which they are applying in their application.

This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

Eligibility:

Applications will only be accepted from approved MRFF Eligible Organisations. A list of approved MRFF Eligible Organisations is available from the GrantConnect GO Documents and from the MRFF Eligible Organisations List  on the NHMRC website.

Applications must satisfy all the requirements set out in the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) – Preventive and Public Health Research Initiative – 2023 Maternal Health and Healthy Lifestyles Grant Opportunity Guidelines.

Grant Activity Timeframe:

The maximum grant duration is 4 years.

Total Amount Available (AUD):

$15,000,000.00

Estimated Grant Value (AUD):

From $250,000.00 to $2,000,000.00

Instructions for Application Submission:

Applicants are advised to read the Grant Guidelines thoroughly and liaise with the MRFF Eligible Organisation that will submit the application to identify any specific requirements that the Organisation might have.

Applications must be submitted electronically using NHMRC’s online granting system (Sapphire).

Minimum Data closes at 5:00 pm (ACT Local Time) on 17 May 2023.

Questions should be submitted no later than 1:00 pm (ACT Local Time) on 7 June 2023.
