Cherry Gardens is a high bushfire risk semi-rural community located in the Mount Lofty ranges of South Australia. Due to the local topography, Cherry Gardens is subject to mobile coverage and quality of service issues.
The Australian Government has allocated up to $200,000 (GST exclusive) to deliver improved 4G mobile coverage and/or quality of service in Cherry Gardens and surrounding areas.
The intended objective of the Project is to provide new or upgraded telecommunications network infrastructure which improves mobile coverage and/or quality of service in Cherry Gardens and surrounding areas.
This grant opportunity contributes to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications’ Outcome 5 to:
- Promote an innovative and competitive communications sector, through policy development, advice and program delivery, so all Australians can realise the full potential of digital technologies and communications services.
To be eligible you must:
- have an Australian Business Number (ABN); and
-
be registered for the purposes of GST
and be one of the following entity types, a:
- Mobile Network Operator (MNO); or
-
Mobile Network Infrastructure Provider (MNIP)
You also must have sourced a co-contribution from the South Australian State Government. Applicants are also expected to provide a contribution
Application Timeline
1. Release of the Guidelines and call for applications commences 5 February 2021.
2. Potential applicants need to register their interest by 12 February 2021.
3. Applications are due by 26 March 2021.
Activity Period
The maximum period of this grant is up to one year and the Funded Solution must be completed by the date specified in the Grant Agreement. If you consider that additional time is required to complete your project, please advise the Department in your application.
Grantees will be required to maintain retail services from the Solution for an Operational Period of 10 years following completion of the Project.

Applicants will be required to complete the Application Pack, including the Base Station Assessment Tool (BSAT). The Application Pack, including the BSAT, will be provided to registered applicants.
