Description:

The Inspiring Australia - Science Engagement Program provides funding for a range of initiatives delivered under the Inspiring Australia banner.

The Australian Government announced a total of $7.23 million of ongoing funding each financial year for the Inspiring Australia - Science Engagement Program. This includes $1.19 million over one year for the Inspiring Australia Network grant opportunity, consisting of:

  • $590,000 for Targeted Science Communication activities
  • $600,000 for National Science Week activities.

We expect most grants will be approximately $148,000.

The Inspiring Australia Network is a collaboration between the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments and host organisation. It is a national community of committed partners, State and Territory nodes and committees across Australia. It is made up of local leaders who work with all levels of government, business and community groups to increase STEM engagement through strategic planning, networking, providing grants and coordinating activity, to support the development of scientifically engaged communities for the benefit of Australia’s future.

Establishment and maintenance of state and territory Inspiring Australia Network nodes are supported through grant arrangements under two elements of the Inspiring Australia Engagement Program:

  • Targeted Science Communication
  • National Science Week

Each host organisation delivers the two components for their State or Territory node.

Eligibility:

The grant opportunity is a closed non-competitive grant. The department will identify suitable hosts for each node who have been endorsed by state and territory government representatives.

Endorsed entities will be invited to apply for grant funds in line with the grant guidelines (refer to section 4). The department considers that this is an appropriate selection process considering the nature of the desired outcomes, the collaborative nature and the history of operation under the program.
