Continue the operation and delivery of the Pregnancy, Birth and Baby (PBB) service and establish an information, advice and navigation service, leveraging the Commonwealth’s investment in technology for the 1800MEDICARE service delivered through Healthdirect Australia (Healthdirect). The PBB helpline and website is a national Australian Government service providing support and information for expecting parents and parents of children, from birth to 5 years of age administered by Healthdirect.

The established service will deliver:

• a redesigned Pregnancy, Birth and Baby (PBB) service providing dedicated midwifery-led support for parents and families from preconception to one-year postpartum via helpline, video call, website content and a mobile application.

• advice and service-finding support to families, carers and others in the community who interact with children aged 1-8 with queries about early development and behavioural concerns.

The eligible organisation was determined based on their demonstrated capability to deliver the grant activities, supported by existing infrastructure, governance, and stakeholder relationships. This organisation has a proven track record of delivering similar projects effectively, aligning with the grant’s objectives and outcomes, and offering value for money in the current market. 

Healthdirect Australia Ltd (Healthdirect) is considered to be the only organisation that has the: 

• capability to deliver the grant activities

• existing infrastructure including operational and digital infrastructure to support the grant activities

• existing relationships to support the grant activities 

• knowledge of and capability to deliver to the grant activities, objectives and outcomes. 

Healthdirect is a public company limited by shares and is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the governments of the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. Healthdirect was established in 2006 to deliver health and related services by contracting with service providers, developing capability and managing ongoing operations.
